Monte Rio Redwoods has towering redwoods, vibrant meadows, and pristine salmon streams—are now protected forever. These are the ancestral lands of the Kashia Band of Pomo Indians and the Southern Pomo territory of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria. For decades, passionate people have worked to piece together this wild landscape. The $24 million needed to secure the Monte Rio property was generously provided by the California Wildlife Conservation Board, Sonoma County Ag + Open Space, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Sonoma Land Trust, the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, an anonymous West Sonoma County family, and Save the Redwoods League donors.

‍

Standing on the 1,624-acre Sonoma Coast Redwoods property, panoramic views take in historic Fort Ross to the north and Jenner, Bodega Bay, and Point Reyes to the south—a coastline fronted by the shimmering Pacific. Sea lions bark in the distance, a red-tailed hawk screeches overhead, and the wind rustles the towering redwood trees. Just two hours from San Francisco, near the Russian River and Sonoma’s wine country. But Save the Redwoods League, our partners, and supporters have successfully protected this land—for the benefit of all.
